The experience

Train deeply. Rest well. Leave changed.

A camp is days of focused training, good food and good company at a secluded retreat. Here’s what to expect.

Training

50+ hours of hands-on instruction

Each teacher usually has one or two full days with the group, giving around ten or eleven training days in total.

Training is practical and personal. Teachers explain the principles behind what they do, demonstrate on participants so you can feel it, then work their way around the room correcting and guiding. Their senior students often assist, so there’s always someone to practise with and ask questions of.

Because several systems sit side by side (past camps have covered Internal Wing Chun, Tai Chi, White Crane, Five Ancestors and medical Qi Gong), you see what they share and where they differ. Whether you’re a beginner or have trained for decades, you’ll leave with years of material to work on.

Accommodation & food

A secluded retreat, away from everyday life

We choose quiet, comfortable places surrounded by nature, where the only thing on your schedule is training and recovery.

Training takes place on site, so there’s no commuting: your room is a short walk from the training hall. Meals are taken together, with fresh local food and vegetarian options, and between sessions there’s time to rest, swim, stretch or simply take in the surroundings.

Room options typically include shared twin rooms (paired with a participant of the same gender) and private rooms, and partners who don’t train are welcome to come along. Full details of the venue are shared with the interest list when each camp is announced.

Cultural excursions

Beyond the training hall

A couple of days in each camp are set aside for exploring together. They’re a highlight for many participants, and entirely optional.

Past camps have included visits to sacred and historic sites, time in nature, local markets and a guided meditation session with a respected teacher. Excursions change with every camp and are planned around the setting.

Partners who don’t train are welcome on every excursion.

About us

Why we run The Martial Camp

The Martial Camp began in 2019 with a simple idea: bring genuine teachers of the internal arts together with dedicated practitioners from around the world, in one place, for long enough to make real progress. Since then each camp has added new teachers, new systems and a community of people who often come back.

We care about preserving and sharing this knowledge with integrity. That means working with teachers who can demonstrate what they teach, making time for personal correction, and building an atmosphere where egos are left at the door and everyone, from beginner to senior instructor, is welcome.

The Martial Camp is part of The Martial Man. It was founded by Kieren Krygier, whose years of interviews and training with teachers around the world opened the doors that made it possible.
